Have you ever read the story in the Bible, about the woman that had uncontrollable bleeding for twelve years, located in Mark 5:24-34? Imagine, living in a world where your parents disown you, you have no family that wants you, you do not have any friends, and you longed for a husband, but no man would even come near you in fear of becoming unclean; even when the people in public see you, they yell at you announcing to everyone how unclean and filthy you are. For twelve years you have had an uncontrollable bleeding disorder. You spent every dime you owned on doctors that promised they could help you, but they never helped, in fact, they only ended up making matters worse. Now, you are in debt because you’ve spent your life savings on these doctors, and you’ve put these expensive procedures on credit, and that’s even more debt. You have no money, you got evicted, you lost your job because of the bleeding, and now you have no car, nowhere to sleep, you are all alone, and deserted. Not to mention you are too weak to walk because you’ve lost so much blood. You feel these is no hope in sight. I couldn’t even begin to imagine how she must have felt.
I grew up in a very small town, everyone knew everyone, and everyone knew what you were doing long before you even did it, it seems. We were poor, didn’t have a lot, and at a young age, I had no idea what money even was, and didn’t really care. However, most of the kids at school did though. It seemed as if they loved to see me coming. It was like it was the highlight of their day, to make fun of the clothes I was wearing, or that I only had one to two pairs of shoes the entire school year. They were cruel, they made fun of me, and they treated me like a dirty, unclean, servant girl. All that was missing was the fact that I didn’t bleed uncontrollably, but I was that abnormal child as I suffered with ADHD. I find that story so appealing to me because I can kind of sympathize with her. The shame she felt when people would yell at her, people telling her to stay away because they didn’t want to be unclean, the torment and agony she must have felt was beyond awful.
Then, out of nowhere hears rumors about some Man that heals the blind, lame and sick. She had heard that there was once a paraplegic man, and now he can walk. Hearing all these rumors of Him, and how His teachings were unlike anything ever heard. She was on the fence about it because she looks back on her life at all the doctors that have lied to her, promising that they could help her, and only making her worse. BUT… after listening to the rumors of this Man being The Messiah, and that He has come into the world to save it, and all the signs and wonders that He has done, He must be the Christ! She believes in Him more than she’s ever believed in anyone.
There they were, Jesus, His Disciples, a Pharisee, and a Gentile walking down the road. People were gathering all around, yelling and shouting for Jesus. She seen Him, and was franticly saying, “just a fringe, just a fringe from His garment, and I’ll be healed.” So, she sought out amongst the crowd, got close enough, fell to the ground reaching for His garment. As she was falling, she was able to touch just the fringe, and He stopped the crowed. He asked, “who touched me?” Could you imagine the shame she must have felt after she had calmed down from the excitement she felt because she was right. She was healed. When she realized all eyes was on her, and Jesus was standing over her asking, “whoever touched me, please come forward, I felt the power go out from me!” She looked embarrassed, but had faith to admit it was her. I could imagine she was afraid. Thinking to herself, this Man, this Healer, He was a very powerful man, and I, a low life, unclean woman, touched Him. He is probably going to make me feel even less than I am. She was afraid! Afraid that he would reject her just as everyone else had in her life. As He kneeled down to her, after she said it was I, and He said, the most beautiful words to her ever heard, “My Daughter” she looked shamed and said, “I am no one’s daughter.” He said that it not true! Daughter, and her eyes filled with tears, as she experienced fatherly love for the first time in a very long time. All that hurt and shame she felt for twelve years was instantly gone.
Does this story feel relatable or have such an impact on your life as it has mine? Have you ever been so humiliated in public, school, college, or work to the point you just want to disappear off the face of the earth? Have we often lived in fear for so long that someone else’s generosity may feel like a setup or fake?
May I remind you that the love of Jesus is real, and it comes to us when we need it most. He is not this scary fictional character that others have created in their mindset. He is real! His love, grace, kindness, and mercy that He gives is touching and inspiring. “How much love does He have for us”, you ask? Well, He could have kept His healing powers from us and kept them for His own personal pleasures, but He didn’t. He healed those in need, at the very moment they needed it, to glorify Him, and His Father. He died for us. He died for you, for me, for everyone. I don’t know about you, but I’m going to say that there are only a few people on this earth I’d be willing to actually die for. I couldn’t die for those that are selfish, mean and hateful to me, but Jesus did though! He died for EVERYONE!!
Those that nailed Him to the cross, He died for them, and He still loves them. Those that spit on Him as He was heading to the cross, He died for them, and He loves them. He died and still loves the murderers, the thieves, the liars, even the ones that you have issues with, in your own life right now to this very day! He loves everyone. Did you know that He loves all those mentioned just as much as He loves you? That one was hard for me in the beginning, because no way could The King of The Universe could ever love the guy that raped me on my 19th birthday, but He does, and I was able to fully forgive this man, through the love I have for Christ.
Just because I have never hurt anyone, just as that guy hurt me that night, doesn’t mean I haven’t hurt Jesus just as badly. How you ask? In Romans 3:23 (and yes, I know we have touched base on this one before, so you already know) It says, “for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” 1 John 1:8 says, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
Sitting in Jesus’ presence and hearing Him call me daughter, is something I have longed to hear my whole life, even before knowing I needed it. Growing up, I had ADHD, and I believe I have carried it throughout my adulthood life as well. I am a visual learner due to that. So, if you are anything like me, and you cannot sit down with a book in your hands, read, and know everything the author is talking about, watch The Chosen, and find this scene. It is Season 3, episode 5. I’ve seen it more than 10 times, and I still, to this day, cry when I watch it. After you watch it, rewind it, press play, but this time, close your eyes and pretend Jesus is speaking directly to you! I promise it will give you a different perspective on it, and may just leave you in tears. I pray it brings you as close, or closer to Jesus as it did for me.
This is the intimate relationship we should be having with Jesus daily. Be still, be quiet, be alone with Him, and pray for your Father to call you, His daughter. Be reminded Who created you! You are His! His love for you will endure forever!
Don’t be bothered by the ones of this world that doesn’t have your best interest at heart. Don’t let them cause you to be angry, or harden your heart. Instead, pray for those that hurt you. Pray for those that wrong you, and the ones that try to make you believe the lies of the enemy, because he wants you to believe it. Love them, but from a praying distance. Don’t allow the enemy to work through others to get to you. As it says in Matthew 5:44 “But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those that persecute you!”
Do I need to remind you where the enemy lies? Remind him where he is, and where your God is! Remind him where he will spend his eternity, and where you will spend yours! God has already won, and He is carrying you into Heaven as a loving father or mother carries their children to bed. Remind the enemy that he has no authority over you, or in your mind here on earth. Tell him you have a joy that comes from the Father, and it’s not his to take. Demand him to flee from you, and to take his false accusations with him. You are born again, born into royalty because you are the daughter of The King of The Universe.
Mark 5:24-34
24 Jesus went with him and all the people followed, crowding around Him. 25 A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. 26 She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. 27 She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind Him through the crowd and touched His robe. 28 For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch His robe, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition. 30 Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from Him, so He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched My robe?” 31 His disciples said to Him, “Look at this crowd pressing against You. How can You ask, “Who touched Me?” 32 But he kept on looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then, the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell to her knees in front of Him and told Him what she had done. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.”
So tonight, as you lay down to go to sleep, hear these words “Daughter”, because you are the daughter of The Most High, The King of Kings, and The Lord of Lords.
I sure hope you enjoyed this message God gave me to you today.
This is a blog post from Remain in Faith, praying you have a blessed, beautiful and anointed day, daughter
